Ukhrul, June 02 2015 :
Alleging that unfair means have been used in casting of votes in the just concluded MHAADC polls rendering the very exercise null and void in the two polling stations of 1-Jessami DCC, workers of an Independent candidate in the constituency have called upon the Returning Officer (RO) for a re-poll of the two polling booths.
Addressing a press conference at Viewland Tuesday evening, R Joyson, chief agent of Chihanmi Horam, Jessami ADC Independent candidate said that some miscreants had resorted to mass proxy voting by way of impersonation during the polls held on June 1 last rendering the very exercise null and void in the polling stations No.1 & 2 of 1-Jessami DCC.
He further denounced the fact that miscreants forcibly voted in favour of certain candidates using the names of a large number of absentees comprised of persons serving in Indian Army among others.
Pointing out that even the names of 12 victims of March 13 Phek bus accident have been illegally used by the proxy voters in the said booths, he said that such illegal practices have hurt the sentiment of the people in the constituency.
"This is violating election code of conduct and thus not admissible," he rued while adding that such illegal practice of casting vote should be declared null and void.
He then said that to press for a re-poll in the said polling booths, he submitted a complaint petition to the returning officer today urging him to arrange for the same in the interest of justice.
