Imphal, August 18 2015:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has on Tuesday urged all concerned to stop spreading rumours that the alliance has taken side with the State Government over the ILPS issue on Tuesday.
DESAM President Moirangtham Angamba said that many activists of DESAM have been sent to jail in connection with the ongoing ILPS issue and the alliance office was even vandalized for taking part in the ILPS protest by its volunteers.
"Let the people decide whether DESAM is with the Govt or with the people on the issue," said Angamba at DESAM head office, Keishampat.
Saying that DESAM has been taking part in the ongoing ILPS mass movement even before the formation of JCILPS, Angamba added that the student body is not fed up with the movement and that it will continue to join the protest until the implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
Meanwhile, as part of its Reconsolidation of Campaign for Implementation of ILPS, DESAM started a series of protest demonstrations including indefinite fast by its volunteers at various places of the Imphal city on Tuesday to demand immediate implementation of ILPS.
The eight indefinite hunger strikers are Ngariyambam Dinesh Meetei (21) of Kongba Nongthon Leikai, Laiphrakpam Ronil (23) of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda, Maibam Dinachandra (20) of Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Laishram Dhaneshwori (21) of Waiton Mamang Leikai, Loitongbam Premkumar (18) of Ghari Awang Leikai, Salam Nivash (17) of Heirangoithong Yaingam Leikai, Khoirom Jina (24) of Lalambung Makhong Khoirom Leikai and Elangbam Rojitkumar alias Musuk (21) of Hingyanglam Makha Leikai.
The DESAM volunteers started the fast in front of the alliance office.
