77th Hiroshima Day observed

As observed all over the world, Indo-Japan Friend ship Association Manipur in collaboration with The Year of Peace Hiroshima Japan (Imphal Chapter) observed the 77th Hiroshima Day at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.
The observance was attended by MAHUD/RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand as chief guest, Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur president Ph Nandakumar as president and Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) caretaker mayor L Lokeshwar as guest of honour.
In his speech, Khemchand opined that Japan's speedy development after getting bombed by the atom bomb is due to the people's love and efforts for their country and community.
It is natural for a country to assist another in need, he said, while adding that the relationships between humans cannot be destroyed.
He then remarked that the observance shows Japan's love and care for Manipur and vice versa.
As part of the observance, an art competition for children was organised under two categories.
The winners of the competition were later felicitated by the dignitaries.
On the other hand, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (CPI) observed Hiroshima Day at Irabot Bhavan here on Saturday.
The observance was attended by renowned writer Langol Iboyaima and CPI Manipur State secretary L Thoiren.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Nara stated that the reason behind the bombing of Hiroshima was the USA's determination to gain the upper hand while the Second World War was coming to an end.
Nothing could justify the killing of Japanese soldiers or the dropping of the atom bomb which killed countless civilians, he remarked, while narrating the history behind Hiroshima Day observance to the gathering.
Later, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the countless souls who were killed in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
