Imphal, August 14 2014 :
Populace in remote and hilly villages of Thanlon, Singngat, Tipaimukh and Henglep Sub-divisions of Churachandpur district have been facing hardships due to shifting of all TD Blocks to the district headquarters during Kuki - Zomi ethic clashes in 1997 .
All villages in the four sub-divisions have been deprived of various centrally sponsored schemes like ICDS and MGNREGS for a long time after all the TD blocks were moved to the district headquarters.
Singngat, Thanlon, Tipaimukh, and Henglep T.D Blocks were inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Manipur Rishang Keishing during 1985-1988.However, the state government moved them to Churachandpur district headquarters citing security reasons.
Alleging that chiefs of all these four TD blocks are mischievously taking all the benefits of the villagers, Mangpu Naulak, who is the chief of Bukpi village under Thanlon T.D Block, pointed out that the students in the village have to face a lot of difficulties while taking tribe certificates, domiciles and other documents as they have to travel on inaccessible roads to reach the district headquarters.
He further said that there are over 3,000 beneficiaries of Old Age Pension schemes in the four sub-divisions of Churachandpur, but they often have to forego the benefit because of the awkward situation in the state government.
