EGM, CPI, UCM condole demise of 'Khollao Deben'

The Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) expressed deepest condolences over the sudden demise of veteran journalist Nongmaithem Deven Singh, popularly known as "Khollao Deben," who passed away on Thursday.
In a message, EGM informed that its members shared the loss of the family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
'Khollao Deven', who was one of the founder members of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) started his career as a journalist with the now defunct 'Khollao' daily and later worked with several Manipuri and English dailies in Manipur.
Deben during his lifetime actively worked to set up AMWJU along with other senior journalist of the time for the welfare of the journalist of Manipur.
Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) also condoled the demise Nongmaithem Deben, at Irabot Bhawan here on Friday.
In a release, MSC/CPI informed that the condolence meeting was attended by CPI central executive member Dr M Nara, control commission chairman L Iboyaima, state secretary L Thoiren, veteran theoretician Thokchom Yaiskul, Salam Indubushan and G Tomba Sharma as presidium members.
During the condolence meeting, L Thoiren highlighted the role 'Khollao Deben' played for the welfare of the society.
He acted as the voice for the sufferings and rights of the people every day through the local daily 'Khollao' without any fear, the release recounted and informed that a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
United Committee Manipur (UCM) also expressed its deepest condolences over the demise of N Deven, who breathed his last on Thursday.
In a release, UCM recalled the responsibilities that Deven took in various issues of the state and welfare of the journalists, adding that his demise has left a void in the entire media fraternity of Manipur.
Informing that a condolence meeting was held at the office premise of UCM, Leisemba added that a two minutes' silence was observed as mark of respect to the departed soul.
UCM also shared grief of the bereaved family.
