Dept of Social Welfare organises musical awareness programme

In a bid to curb and subsequently uproot the abuse of psychoactive substances in Manipur, the Department of Social Welfare conducted a "One Day Musical Awareness on Prevention of Psychoactive Substance Use" at INA Auditorium Hall, Moirang today.
The musical awareness programme organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was attended by Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Social Welfare, Skill Labour & Employment & Entrepreneurship; Th Shanti Singh, MLA Moirang AC; I Nalini Devi, MLA Oinam AC and Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director, Social Welfare as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Heikham Dingo Singh shared that the programme was conducted with the goal of uprooting the menace of illicit substances in the State under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The Minister opined that in the past, the scourge of drug abuse used to affect only well-to-do households in the heart of Imphal city.
However, in the present climate, abuse of psychoactive substances has crossed all barriers of age, economic status etc and affected everyone equally.
He also appealed to the youth to avoid succumbing to the evil of drug abuse and added that the State administration had made efforts to spread awareness in this regard through many activities across the schools in Manipur.
Urging the people to become health conscious and maintain a healthy lifestyle, he called for their support in building a drug-free society.
In the technical session, counsellors of Anouba Mangal De-addiction Centre, Rameshchandra, Brajeshwari and Project Coordinator Kishorchand educated the gathering on the topics, "Drugs & causative factors of drug abuse", "Harmful consequences of drug abuse & its preventive measures" and "Current scenario of drug abuse in Manipur" .
