Kharif Forage Day 2022 observed

All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Forage Crops Utilisation, College of Agriculture, CAU Iroisemba, Imphal organised Kharif Forage Day 2022 at the Assembly Hall of College Of Agriculture, CAU Imphal today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Dr Ng Ibotombi Singh, Director, Department of Vety & Animal Husbandry highlighted the importance of milk consumption for better health while adding that India is the largest producer of milk in the world.
Haryana and Punjab are both high milk producing as well as consuming States in India.
But according to an assessment conducted by the National Dairy Board, milk production in the North East region is quite low, he maintained.

As such, based on the current quantity of milk production, Manipur cannot supply the needs of its citizens, he opined.
Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Research, CAU Imphal also addressed the gathering and stated that the demand for milk is increasing in the State as more people are becoming health conscious and realizing the various benefits of milk.
To meet the increasing demand for milk, more people have taken up cow rearing, he added.
Elaborating on cow rearing, he said that fodder takes up around 60% of the total cost of rearing cows.
This high cost can be reduced by feeding cows with green grass and other highly nutritious plants, he added.
The function was also attended by Dr L Nabachandra Singh, in-charge, AICRP, College of Agriculture, CAU Imphal as the functional president while Dr R Joseph Koireng, Scientist, AICRP on Forage Crops Utilisation, CAU Imphal delivered an insightful lecture on relevant subjects.
After the function, a visit was paid to the CAU Research Farm located in Andro.
