Imphal, September 09 2022:
Even as the protest in pursuance of the demand for inclusion of Meetei-Meitei in the ST list continues, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has asked the state government to make public its stance over the issue.
On Friday, Western Star Club, Langjing Women's Welfare Association and local Meira Paibi associations of Langjing area organised a sit-in protest at Langjing Achouba Keithel under the aegis of STDCM.
Interacting with the media at the protest site, STDCM finance secretary Khagokpam Kunder said that they are launching the movement for over a decade now considering the bleak future of indigenous Meetei community of the state.
Unfortunately, the government is ignoring the matter for long without giving any definitive response.
Today, even outsiders have entered the electoral politics and it would not be long before the state assembly would be run by outsiders, he said and added that the government needs to act before it is too late.
He also demanded the government to declare its position over the matter instead of just remaining silent and protracting the issue by giving false assurance from time to time.
