International Literacy Day celebrated

International Literacy Day 2022 was celebrated yesterday at Sangaiyumpham Community Hall, Thoubal District to highlight the importance of literacy for the betterment of individuals, communities and societies.
The celebrations was organised by The All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association (AMPWA) in association with Muslim Students Development Organisation (MSDO), Sangaiyumpham.
It was attended by Okram Surjakumar Singh, MLA Khangabok AC; AR Khan, president AMPWA; A Subhash Singh, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal; Hifzur Rahman, Member Thoubal Zila Parishad; MA Sattar, IAS (retired) as presidium members.
Resource persons, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, Principal Lilong Haoreibi College; Dr Farijuddin Khan, Asstt Professor Department of Political Science, Imphal College and Mohammed Ajmal Hussain, Advocate, High Court of Manipur spoke about "National Education Policy 2020 & Vocational Education", "Status of Literacy In India & Challenges faced by Muslims" and "Legal Literacy" respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, O Surjakumar Singh stressed on the importance of education and exhorted the students to focus their attention to get the best education to empower themselves and become better human beings.
He appealed for a wide range of publicity and efforts to literate people in every field while appreciating AMPWA and MSDO for organising such events in remote areas of the State.
Later, a spot quiz competition was conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners.
