TPR crosses 5 pc, six new cases detected

In a perturbing development, the daily positivity rate of Covid-19 cases crossed the threshold of 5 per cent after a gap of nearly two and half months on Thursday as government bulletins reported six new positive cases out of 105 samples tested, thus, registering 5.7 per cent positivity rate.
According to WHO, positivity rate of 5 per cent is the threshold for deciding severity of a pandemic.
The global health body recommends maintaining daily positivity rate below 5 per cent in order to contain the situation.
The last time the state recorded positivity rate above the threshold was on August 9, which reported 31 cases out of 456 samples tested, with a positivity rate of 6.8 per cent.
The six fresh cases detected on Thursday are residents of Imphal West (3), Bishnupur (1) and Kangpokpi (2) districts.
As no recovery was reported on Thursday, the number of active cases rose to 28 out of which 12 are in home isolation.
No death case was reported in the last 24 hours and the toll stands at 2149 including seven CAPF personnel.
So far, the virus has infected 1,39,861 individuals including 5,022 CAPF personnel.
In the last 24 hours, 964 vaccine doses were administered and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 16,46,337, out of which 13,31,355 had received the second dose and 2,71,990 precautionary doses.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (49832), Imphal East (32048), Thoubal (10295), Churachandpur (11289), Kangpokpi (3188), Tamenglong (3497), Bishnupur (9983), Senapati (2547), Ukhrul (3368), Kakching (6979), Chandel (2796), Noney (1173), Tengnoupal (1214), Jiribam (1118), Kamjong (1057), and Pherzawl (477) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (712), Imphal East (517), Thoubal (192), Churachandpur (169), Kangpokpi (70), Tamenglong (17), Bishnupur (206), Senapati (13), Ukhrul (52), Kakching (124), Chandel 43), Noney (5), Tengnoupal (17), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5), and Pherzawl (0) .
