Entrepreneurship prog on Floriculture begins

Imphal, June 20 2014 :
A 14-day long entrepreneurship skill development programme on Floriculture in Chandel District, which is being organized by the Garden Care in collaboration with State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) under the centrally sponsored scheme 'Back Ward Religion Fund', began from today at Manipur Press Club here.
The inaugural function of the programme was attended by Addl DC of Chandel LN Kashung and Retd Director of Agriculture B Haridas Sharma as Chief Guest and president respectively.
K Devdutta Sharma, Agriculture Officer, Dept of Horticulture & Soil Conservation and Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, president of AMWJU were also present on the occasion as Guests of Honor.
Addressing the gathering, Devdutta Sharma stated that Floriculture, art of growing and marketing flowers is a potential source of livelihood and self employment.
He informed that the State requires 90 metric tonnes of flower annually but at present, it has been able to produce only 33 metric tonnes, and emphasized the need for organizing skill development programmes to highlight the importance and scope of Floriculture in the State.
A total of 33 trainees are participating in the programme.
