Imphal, May 15 2021:
Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has lodged a complaint to state health department demanding departmental action against six doctors who are yet to join duty at their places of posting despite issuance of posting orders long time back.
In a written complaint submitted in this regard to director (health), IPAK termed as very unfortunate that some doctors are not doing duty at their places of posting at a time when the second wave of COVID-19 has struck the state hard and people are suffering like never before.
The Association pointed out that six doctors namely Dr Tikendrajit Ningombam (Anaesthetist), Dr Md Yahia Khan (Gynaecologist), Dr M Sanjeet (MO), Dr Geetchandra Tongbram (MO), Dr N Pinky Chanu (ENT Specialist) and Dr Priyadarsh-ini Sougrakpam (MO) were posted to Ukhrul district hospital long time back.
However, none of them joined duty at their place of posting, it said and demanded clarification from the doctors for continuous avoidance to serve the people.
IPAK also demanded the health department to take up departmental action against the six erring doctors and maintained that the association received reports about doctors, nurses and medical staff posted in hills staying put in the valley.
Asking as to how people in the hills would get medical treatment when doctors and medical staff are absent, IPAK asked the government to take action against all irresponsible doctors who tarnish image of the profession by serving at private hospitals instead of going to their places of postings.
If found out that the aforementioned doctors did not attend duty at their places of posting intentionally, then the government should terminate them from their service and even take action to cancel their practising license, IPAK said in the complaint and maintained that these doctors have no professional ethics.
Apart from pressuring director (health) to take punitive action against the doctors, IPAK also demanded immediate posting of requisite doctors to Ukhrul district hospital at the earliest and encourage doctors who are serving patients at the hospital despite lack of manpower.
