Imphal, May 15 2021:
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal is facing acute shortage of Covid beds and medical oxygen, said officials in the hospital.
They said the hospital has a total of 112 Covid beds including 28 in the Casualty Ward.
Covid patients are first treated at the Casualty Ward and then they are referred to the Covid Ward according to their health conditions and treatments needed.
The Casualty Ward which has 28 Covid beds has been accommodating about 40 patients since the last few days.
Above this, there are many Covid patients in ambulances outside waiting for admission to the Casualty Ward.
Moreover, the hospital is facing acute shortage of medical oxygen, said the sources.
With increasing number of Covid cases daily, the limited resources of RIMS and available medical staff would not be enough to face the second wave successfully.
The Government should arrange adequate medical oxygen cylinders and enhance infrastructure and equipment required to face the pandemic, they said.
