Imphal, February 10 2022:
Refuting the allegation of hiding pending criminal cases in his affidavit as levelled by Congress candidate for Thongju assembly constituency, works minister Th Biswajit said that he feels pity for Congress party which has fielded a candidate, who does not have proper knowledge of criminal case, in the constituency.
Addressing a press meet at his official residence near Sanjenthong, here on Thursday, the minister said that a candidate is required to disclose information regarding conviction and pending FIR cases in the affidavit as per the guidelines of ECI.
The cases mentioned by Congress candidate Seram Neken are all complaints against him for which FIRs have not been registered yet.
He also has certificates issued by OCs of Singjamei, Lamphel, Imphal, and Irilbung police stations stating that there are no pending criminal cases against him, Biswajit said, while showing those certificates to the media.
Earlier, he put a ban on releasing MGNREGS fund meant for wage component after he received report of Neken trying to convert the fund into material component.
In this regard, he received summon from the court but registering a case against a government spokesperson requires Governor's sanction under CrPC Section 197 .
The domestic violence case mentioned by his rival is also a complaint and no FIR was registered in this regard.
Simply having a complaint against him does not make him a criminal, he explained.
Clearing the doubts and allegations over releasing of MGNREGS fund, the minister said that the job card holders are enjoying more mandays under the BJP government.
Centre had released Rs 424 crore fund for 2021-22 .
The fund has also been sanctioned from the finance department and it is pending in the treasury.
Beneficiaries will soon get their wages as the same will be credited into their respective bank accounts once the treasury department clears the bill.
The minister also said that Neken's wife RK TamphaSana is personally involved in withdrawal of MGNREGS wages for the beneficiaries under his area.
Utilising development fund in renovation of religious halls by submitting project under the title renovation of community hall is also illegal.
The public should understand nature of the Congress candidate, who is also a ZP member, and use their votes wisely, he said and added that the Congress candidate is too weak to stand against BJP in Thongju AC .
