Sit-ins denounce woman's death, demarcation

Imphal, April 26 2022:
In connection with the mysterious death of one Shamom ningol Ningthoujam ongbi Chengkheinganbi Devi on April 21, a sit-in protest was staged at Arong Khunjao on Tuesday.
The sit-in was staged by Arong Khunou Meira Paibi, Arong Heibongmakhong Meira Paibi, Nongmaikhong Meira Paibi, Khordak Meira Paibi, Thoubal District United Organisation (THOUBAL Ema), Club and JAC members.
Several resolutions were also adopted during the sit-in.
They include not claiming the body until the identity of the culprit is revealed, registration of an FIR to apprehend the culprit, and lastly, for the post mortem report to be made public by April 27, as agreed by the government.
If the government fails to adhere to the demands, the JAC would launch intense agitations.
Meanwhile, students of Modern College staged a sit-in protest against any attempt to demarcate the college campus on Tuesday.
During the sit-in, the agitated students held placards inscribed with slogans such as "No demarcation in Modern College", "Don't be greedy of the college property", "Modern College Students' Union will not give away the college's land" .
Speaking on the sidelines, Games and sports secretary Nameirakpam Lamyanba Mangang contended that repeated requests have been made to Thongju AC ex-MLA Bijoy Koijam not to carry out any demarcation inside the college complex.
As such, no more attempts should be made to demarcate the college campus, he said, while urging the education minister to look into the matter.
