Public convention opposes Hindi imposition

Several resolutions including launch of concerted joint campaign against the alleged imposition of Hindi language have been adopted during a public convention held on the topic 'Hindi subject compulsory up to Class X: A boon or curse for our indigenous minorities' at GM hall here on Tuesday.
The convention was organised jointly by six student organisations namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS.
The resolutions adopted during the convention include not accepting the move of making Hindi subject compulsory up to Class X in Manipur; jointly fight against such imposition; launch of intense movement for preservation and development of mother language of different communities; and exerting pressure on the government for taking up steps to educate students in their mother language so as to include in NEP 2020 for preservation of mother languages.
Moreover, the meet maintained there is no harm in making other required languages as optional subjects and decided to exert pressure for intensifying the process of translation and transliteration of books in mother language; formulation and implementation of 'State Language Policy' in tune with the changing times; to bring out the agenda of language policy in the assembly session and forming a committee so as to take up all necessary activities to ensure that the adopted resolutions are translated into actions.
The public convention moderated by veteran journalist Leihaothabam Sharatchandra was attended by MU associate professor Dr Chinglen Maisnam, MU assistant professor Dr N Sanatomba, Retd IAS RK Nimai, MIU professor Dr Th Chandramani, HERICOUN president Longjam Ratan, CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba, UPF president N Rupachandra, IPSA vice president Khuraijam Athouba, LIPUL president Thokchom Somorendra and COHR chairman Phunindro Konsam as speakers.
