'Manipur gifted with abundant natural resources'

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday visited Chandel district, to review the programmes and projects being taken up under the NITI Aayog, Aspirational District programme.
The union minister arrived at Imphal Airport from Guwahati around 9am on Tuesday and immediately left for the district.
During his visit, the Union Minister had a review meeting at the DC's office complex and called upon the district administration and all the stakeholders to promote the district by taking up extra and special initiatives so as to expedite development of Chandel and serve the purpose of its selection as an aspirational district.
He also said that the motivational attitudes need to be incorporated into the actions of all the stakeholders of the district, while suggesting a dedicated team to monitor the different development parameters in the district regularly.
The union minister further expressed firm belief that Manipur, a state gifted with abundant natural resources, will take the lead role in ensuring self-sustainable.
The state also has a unique biodiversity and as such, a fast-paced development is possible with the support and hard work of the people.
He then said that the north-eastern states are full of potential.
The union minister directed officials to continue the rapid transformations seen in the district and said that Chandel is becoming an important contributor to India's growth story.
Sonowal, said, "I am certain that with the amount of work being implemented, Chandel will soon emerge as one of the leading districts in India," adding "Aspirational district Chandel in Manipur will soon be one the most visible districts of the country" .
Earlier on his way to the District HQs, Sarbananda Sonowal inspected the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Komlathabi.
During his visit, he interacted with all the doctors and the Healthcare workers of the PHC and also inquired about the development works taken up under the central and state government sponsored schemes.
The union minister also lauded the efforts of the staff to provide excellent service to the people of the district and urged them to carry forward their good works.
At the outset of Tuesday's review meeting, all the development works being taken up under the Aspirational District programme in the district were highlighted through a power point presentation to the union minister.
Chandel district is located near the India-Myanmar border and is placed under the 115 aspirational districts of India.
