Ukhrul, April 26 2022:
President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) David K Shimray has urged the State Government to do all it can in removing the controversial AFSPA from all the hill districts of Manipur.
Addressing a function held at Wino Bazar, Ukhrul today, David said that removing the Army Act which gives sweeping power to security personnel only from valley areas may create division among the people.
He also expressed desire to build good and healthy relationships among all the communities and focus on development and maintained that Tangkhul and Meitei have had a strong relationship since the ancient period.
Saying that differences, if any, have to be sorted out to promote the feeling of oneness, he narrated that the Tangkhuls were highly regarded in Meitei society and without them the Meitei king wouldn't perform important rituals in the past.

"Our age-old relation has to be preserved with utmost sincerity," he added.
David also expressed dismay with the Government for removing AFSPA from the valley districts only, claiming that the same may create division among the hill and valley people.
Urging the Government to withdraw AFSPA from all hill districts of Manipur immediately, David claimed that Ukhrul has been neglected for more than 20 years without any Cabinet post in the Government.
"However the incumbent BJP led Government has given a ray of hope by inducting Khashim Vashum as a Minister," he added.
David also urged all the departmental staff of Ukhrul district to station at their respective place of posting and added that TNL will observe their activities for good.
The Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations who jointly organised the programme were Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Tangkhul Maya Ngala Long (TMNL) and Tangkhul Ato Longphang (TAL) .
