Thoubal, October 30 2021:
Former chief minister and incumbent Thoubal MLA Okram Ibobi Singh has said that it is shameful to accuse the previous Congress government in the state of attempting to break apart Thoubal assembly constituency as if the Delimitation Commission of India could be intervened by the state government.
Speaking at the inauguration and handing over of Moijing Meena Bazar, Moijing Leingoijing community hall and Moijing playground constructed with his MLA Local Area Development Fund on Saturday, the former chief minister explained that Delimitation Commission of India, Union Public Service Commission and Election Commission of India are all autonomous bodies constituted by the Constitution of India and no state government has power to interfere into these bodies under any circumstances.
However, some politicians are spreading the rumour that the previous Congress government tried to break apart Thoubal AC and many areas of the AC namely Thoubal Moijing, Leishangthem and Thoudam were on the verge of merging with Irong, he said and appealed to all concerned to stop spreading the rumour which could confuse people.
While clarifying that the previous Congress government never attempted to break apart the constituency, O Ibobi asked those spreading the rumour to bring out evidences if the previous Congress government had taken any cabinet decision in this regard and sent proposal to the Delimitation Commission.
He also said that the next delimitation in 2026 will not be an easy one and the state government cannot act at will and approval from the people will be taken repeatedly.
It is the people who would decide performance of a government and not the government, he said while alleging that present government has failed to formulate good policy for the people.
Asking the present BJP led government to stop looting people while promising to provide cooking gas at subsidised rate, O Ibobi pointed out that a refilled cooking gas cylinder cost only Rs 300 during the Cpngress government but it is now Rs 1200 .
The BJP government does not think for the people but is only interested in doing publicity, he said and claimed that India's economy was third in the world during the Congress regime but Bangladesh has better economy than India now.
The event was also attended by Leishangthem Zilla Parishad member Md Abdul Latif, Wangkhem MLA K Meghachandra, Khangabok MLA O Surjakumar, ex-MLA O Landhoni and Moijing GP pradhan Md Abdul Warish.
