MLAs, ex-MLAs keen to join JD (U): Hangkhanpao

Janata Dal (United) Manipur Unit president Hangkhanpao Taithul has revealed that some MLAs and ex-MLAs are preparing to join the party ahead of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Speaking as chief guest of the 18th Foundation Day celebration of JD (U) held at Keishampat Hodam Leirak here Saturday, Hangkhanpao predicted that the party will play a huge role in forming the government after the polls in 2022 .
He informed that that the party would field at least 15 candidates, some of whom will be incumbent as well as former MLAs.
Expressing confidence that at least seven candidates of the party will be victorious in the polls and aid in the formation of the government, he said that although JD (U) is in alliance with BJP at the centre, any decision on any pre-poll alliance in the state will be taken after consultation with central leaders.
He continued that JD (U) has not contested the polls for a long time but nonetheless, is planning to contest in the upcoming polls.
For this, party chief and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar along with other party leaders including national president will be visiting the state for election campaign, he conveyed.
In his speech, JD (U) chief general secretary Maisnam Dorendro said that the party has not contested the polls since 2007 from Keirao AC.
However, the party has been preparing to contest the upcoming polls and the probability of the party taking part in the formation of the government is high.
JD (U) has been in power in Bihar for around 16 years and helped in the development of the state.
Additionally, 16 MPs from JD (U) are part of the coalition government at the centre, making it the second party after BJP with most MPs.
Thus, JD (U) had been preparing to contest the polls under the firm belief of the party leaders that the party will be able to take part in the formation of the state government, he stated.
The function was also attended by JD (U) State vice presidents Limzalet Haokip and Wahengbam Rojit.
