Minister Valte treasures forefathers' sacrifices

TA & Hills minister Vungzagin Valte on Saturday brought down the curtains on the Seven Days Workshop cum Painting Competition held on the theme "Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur" at Tribal Research Institute, Imphal.
The workshop was sponsored by ministry of tribal affairs and organised by Tribal Research Institute, Imphal with the objective of preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the various tribal freedom fighters of the state and also to promote tribal artists.
The workshop offered a platform for tribal artists of the state to come together to exchange ideas and enhance their skill from the experts.
Minister Valte expressed his hope to inculcate the inert patriotic feeling among the masses through this workshop and create sustainable economic activities for income generation for the participants as professional painters and artists.
"We are free because of the sacrifices of our forefathers who have fought for our independence," he reminded the gathering.
Expressing his gratitude to TRI for promoting awareness about freedom fighters and unsung heroes during the freedom movement, the minister opined that similar workshops should be organised in the future in different hill districts.
Minister Valte also gave away prizes and citations to the participants and winners of the painting competition.
Sareo Phanitphang, Paominlen Lupheng and Golmei Bonny Kabui won the first, second and third prizes whereas Phaningshang, RN Mungram and Wirisangjingbou Marenmai were awarded consolation prizes respectively.
In all, 24 painters/artists from different districts participated in the competition.
