Teachers should not take part in strikes: Education Minister

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro on Wednesday appealed the teacher community not to take part in organising bandhs, blockades or general strikes.
He was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) .
Attending the 50th foundation day of AMCTA held at Modern College, Porompat as Chief Guest, O Okendro admitted that due to the poor financial position, the State Government has failed to take up any special initiatives in the education sector.
However, the Government has always given every possible help in the field of health and education.
"The Government is now planning to implement the higher education policy in the State" said the minister and appealed the teacher community to avoid taking part in bandhs, general strikes or blockades to register their demands.
"Government will try to fulfill every demand of teachers but they should not pressure the Government", appealed the minister.
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya who attended the function as Special Guest said that State Government should listen to the demands of teachers who have been agitating since a long time.
Government and teachers should sit together and discuss the reason behind the poor performance of Government Colleges in Manipur.
Dr Meinya also appealed the teachers to respect their professions and produce bright students.
AMCTA President M Lokendro attended the function as President.
A souvenir was also released at the function besides holding a symposium on "Role of Teachers in Collegiate Education" .
