WinG bats for State gender policy

The Women in Governance, Manipur (WinG-Manipur) has appealed to the State Government, organisations and people concerned of the State to jointly work and end violence against women and children.
As part of the global campaign to end gender-based violence, WinG-Manipur urged the State Government to develop gender policy and implement the same in order to ensure equal treatment.
Gender budgeting be made mandatory in all the departments, WinG demanded.
It demanded 50 pc reservation for women in Panchayats as per the amendment of Article 243(d) of the Constitution and reservation based on the 73rd Panchayat Amendment in the village authority and Autonomous District Council in all the hill districts of the State.
It urged the State Government to implement the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005, equip the police stations with sufficient trained personnel on gender based violence, develop economic security policy for women especially widow who lost their husband in conflict and armed violence.
It also demanded the State Government to implement the principles of the Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against women and the recommendations of resolution which have been ratified by the Government of India and to ensure effective functioning of the Manipur State Commission for Women.
Customary laws should be amended with gender friendly laws.
The drastic disproportionate sex ratio in the State should also be checked by the State Government, WinG-Manipur said.
