Govt urged to save academic career of Class X students

Six student bodies namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have urged the state government to take up necessary initiatives so that the academic career of class X students, who are preparing to appear the matriculate examination to be conducted by BSEM, is not wasted.
Issuing a joint statement, the student bodies pointed out that Covid-19 pandemic has drastically affected the people all over the world.
In view of the Covid-19 positivity and fatality rates increasing at an alarming rate in the second wave of the pandemic, the government has been fighting the pandemic tooth and nail and the people too are contributing their mite in helping the needy, it noted.
However, the student bodies observed that more concerted initiatives for enhancing the education sector is needed to lessen the impact of the pandemic on the economy and other sectors.
The pandemic has forced shutdown of educational institutions thereby depriving the students to have access to education for a long time.
As such, the government and authorities concerned should take up special initiatives for the welfare of the students so that they do not lose their precious academic career, the release demanded.
Mentioning about the initiatives taken up by various boards, councils and university authorities in other states for the welfare of the students while fighting Covid-19 pandemic, the joint release highlighted the initiatives of CBSE which has worked out a mechanism and promoted students who were to appear in the Class X examination.
Urging the government and authority concerned to discuss ways for conducting examination of Class X and XII or come up with a mechanism if students are to be promoted, the student bodies exhorted the government to finalise the mechanism without further delay so as to dispel the confusion and anxiety being felt by the student community and further demanded to give more priority to Class X appearing students.
A meeting between six student organisations and private school associations was conducted on May 21 for discussing Class X and Class XII examinations, the release added.
