Green Workshop and Seminar held

A two-day long green workshop and seminar organised by DPI and Environment Friend began from today along with an inaugural function held at Rayburn College.
New Lanka, Churachandpur today.
Vungzagin Valte, Parliament Secretary, Govt.of Manipur graced the function as chief guest.
Eminent persons and experts from different backgrounds including the WWF team from Sikkim, Joint Secretary of the Union Home Ministry Vunglunmang IAS and DC of Churachanpur PK Jha IAS also attended the function.
Stressing the importance of planting trees which not only provide shade to the people but also serve as business item, chief guest Vunglunmang observed that the countries with forest landscape are more prosperous than others.
Speaking on the topic 'hand-washing', Biaklun Soute said that Bacteria acquired from unhygienic hands which are used for eating, kills more than AIDS does in the world, and stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene during waste disposal.
One of the Team members from Sikkim, through power point presentation, demonstrated the system by which Sikkim becomes the first State in Green Environment especially in giving technical advice for environment and cultural awareness to the people and providing financial benefit from eco-tourism.
The expert also pointed out that every second we lost an area equal to a soccer field that disappears from the surface of the earth due to felling of trees, hunting, forest fire where the soil was exposed and vegetation minimised.
'In Sikkim, even felling of one tree requires permission from the forest dept., and when the community and individual work together Eco-Tourism is fruitful, the Sikkim team said.
Soumen Dey from WWF speaking on the topic 'web of life' said, 'when we come to think of Green, we have to think of many things including 'wants' which make us realize that nature's products are not finite and have limits.

of Mizoram spoke on the 'New Land Use Policy' (NLUP) in Mizoram which was successful due to proper planning from the state to district level.
He said that civil organizations also took active part in the implementation of the programme by identifying the people who need the policy to cover most.
Later on, K.Vungzamoi and DFO Churachandpur presented papers on diverse topics.
