Imphal, May 16 2021:
Out of 154 people living in Sambrei village of Khundrakpam AC, 94 of them have tested positive for Covid-19, along with two deaths recorded so far.
Meanwhile, Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar on Sunday distributed relief items to the villagers and appealed to the state government to look into the matter.
According to a report, preparations are underway to test the people residing around the locality as well and this is likely to see increase in the number of positive cases.
Those who have tested positive are currently in home isolation and the local and private individuals are extending assistance in the form of medicines as no medication has been provided from government's side.
A club member informed that a team of CMO Imphal East visited the village on Sunday to assess the situation along with initiation of further contact tracing processes.
The team assured of paying another visit on Monday to check the status of patients in home isolation, while police have taken up strict security measures in the area.
The club member further highlighted that the people are facing inconveniences due to absence of a hospital in the area.
The PHC located at Chingkhu earlier had regular staff/nurse but not so anymore.
Additionally, the CHC Sagolmang is lacking in many aspects and as such the people are deprived of good health care service, the member conveyed.
On the other hand, MLA Lokeshwar visited Sambrei village on Sunday and handed over food and other items to Sambrei Youth Club for distribution to the households in containment zones.
Encouraging the volunteers, the MLA assured of extending all possible help to curb the spread of the virus.
He then drew the attention of the state government with regard to the prevailing health crisis and sought the government's help in the matter.
"If the government were to formulate some kind of system to provide the daily essential items to the people in time, especially during the curfew, it would prove to be a huge asset in putting an end to the pandemic.
However, it must be noted that the state would not be facing the harsh effects of the second wave if the government had re-implemented the system used during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic such as aggressive contact tracing, immediate isolation and regular assessment along with strict enforcement of protocols/SOPs", he contended.
Stressing the need to remain vigilant and careful at all times, Lokeshwar appealed to the people to strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines laid down by the Government, while informing that anyone in need of urgent assistance could contact him on his personal phone numbers - 8787346660 and 7629855942.Meanwhile, a Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) has been opened at Naorem Birhari College and the government has issued orders for deployment of doctors and nurses to the centre.
Anyone facing difficulty isolating in their homes can stay at the centre, the MLA conveyed.
