Imphal, May 16 2021:
Manipur Tribal Indigenous Farmers' Committee (MTIFC) has categorically asked the government of Manipur to revoke the order for appointment of IAS/MCS officer as the head of Agriculture Department and cautioned that it will launch agitation in case the demand fails to evoke positive response.
In a release, MTIFC publicity secretary LS Pamei stated that they appealed to the government several times to not appoint IAS/MCS as head of technical departments like Agriculture, Veterinary and AH of the state.
MTIFC stated that these departments play an important role in production of food, animal protein and employment generation of youth, womenfolk, etc.
MTIFC stated that majority of the state's population depends for their livelihood on agriculture and allied activities and are considered the backbone of the local economy.
As such appointing a technical officer for the departments per provisions of existing Recruitment Rules/Service Rules will not only showcase good governance and transparency in administration of the present government but will also provide opportunity to qualified and senior officials to lead these departments efficiently, MTIFC said, adding that it will also bridge the gap between the farmers and the departments in all respects.
MTIFC contended that it remained silent for the past few days due to the challenges arising out of the Covid-19 situation but it may longer tolerate faulty policy of the government.
It also stressed that the government shall have to address the issue dogging the technical departments failing which the MTIFC will be compelled to launch agitation that might cripple normal administration in all the districts.
