Imphal, May 16 2021:
The Goitang Village Authority Council (GoVAC) has declared complete ban on hunting of wild animals and birds in any form and of poaching rare species of wildlife including fishing using dynamo and chemicals within the jurisdiction of the village with immediate effect.
A release by GoVAC secretary Kadongai Panmei cautioned denizens of Goitang as well as people of Khoupum sub-division that defaulters would be dealt with as per the village customary law and Wildlife Protection Act.
While reminding that Article 51A of the Indian Constitution entails every citizen of India to protect and improve the environment and have compassion for living creatures, the release also stated all such "inconsiderate activities lead to the disruption of the environment and affect the natural cycle necessary for the survival leading to the extinction of some species which were abundance in the recent past" .
The Goitang village authority also appealed to the Goitang populace and the surrounding villagers to judiciously use natural resources around them and stated that over exploitation, human greed and commercial business have led to the degradation of forest, depletion of water resources and ultimately climate change.
"It is high time for us to act wisely and conserve the flora and fauna and plants", added the release.
