Imphal, March 12 2018: 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one drug peddler carrying 356 gms of Heroin and 215 gms of brown sugar at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Sita Junction, Tengnoupal yesterday.

According to a press release issued by PRO IGAR (S), based on specific input received from reliable sources regarding the smuggling of contraband drugs, a joint team of 12 Assam Rifles and Tengnoupal district police stopped a silver colour Maruti Van bearing registration number MN06 L 7859 travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Sita Junction; Tengnoupal.

After frisking of the passengers and thorough checking of their baggage, 356 gms of brown sugar and 215 gms of Heroin were found hidden inside a rice cooker of one of the passengers, namely Mayengbam (O) Ningthoujam (N) Tombimacha Devi (66) w/o (L) Madhumangol Singh of Nungoo Wangpokpi, Pangantabi, under Kakching police station, Thoubal district.

The recovered drugs along with the apprehendee were handed over to Tengnoupal police station, said the release.
