Cycle rally against Tipaimukh Project

Luwangbung Development Association (LDA) conducted a cycle rally against Tipaimukh Hydroelectric Power Project at Awang Sekmai today.
The cycle rally was flagged off from Luwangbung Nilapadma Primary School and covered most places of Awang Sekmai.
Talking to media persons in connection with the rally, Member of Luwangbung Development Association Kh Malemnganba said that more than 1000 hectares of land would be submerged if the Tipaimukh Dam is constructed.
Moreover, thousands of flora and fauna from the area would be lost leading to an ecological imbalance.
People of more than 90 villagers would be displaced due to this project.
LDA would also submit a nine-point memorandum to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Ministry of Environment and Forest and National Hydropower Cooperation on Tipaimukh Project, he added.
Slogans like "Stop Chakpi Multipurpose Project", "Respect UN Declaration on Indigenous People's Rights", "Mega Dam Kills Generation", "Don't Make Us Refugees in Our Land" etc.
were put in the banners of the cycle rally.
