KEDO begins cleanliness drive at Ema Keithel

Imphal, August 10, 2013:
A three-day cleanliness drive at Khwairamband Ema Keithel organized by Kanglei Economic Development Organization (KEDO) in connection with the Patriots' Day (August 13) was inaugurated by Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai here today.
Volunteers of KEDO and women of Khwairamband Keithel cleaned up Emoinu Keithel and Bir Tikendrajit Park.
They would continue to clean BT Park and its surrounding for the next two days.
Minister Mirabai also participated in the cleanliness drive.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Mirabai said that Khwairamband Ema Keithel is a unique all-women market place not found elsewhere in the world.
The initiative of KEDO and women of Khwairamband Keithel to clean up the market place must be appreciated by all.
Social Welfare Department is just rendering some assistance to fulfil the needs of the volunteers, she noted.
Recalling an incident in which a member of Japanese team visiting Loktak Lake picked up the bottles of soft drink left behind by the visitors, she exhorted people to have such civic sense which people of the State usually do not have.
The inaugural function was also attended by Director of Social Welfare L Ibobi, Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) A Nimai Sharma, Councillor Memchatombi and Councillor Tombi.
