2nd surgical outreach camp conducted at Tamenglong successfully

Under the auspices of District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong, the 2nd Surgical Outreach Camp successfully concluded at the district hospital here yesterday.
In all 22 patients were operated during the two-day long surgical camp.
Out of 22 patients, 14 were of major cases and the remaining minor cases.
The 2nd Surgical Outreach Camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr..NJitandra, HOD Surgery Unit I of JNIMS, Imphal.
The Surgical Outreach Camp was held at the district hospital, Tamenglong with minimum expenditure from patients.
The next camp is likely to take place again in the month of October this year.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in connection with the 2nd Surgical Outreach Camp, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong expressed his gratitude to the surgical teams from JNIMS for conducting the camp voluntarily knowing the hardship faced by people of Tamenglong.
Dr Chambo pointed out that patients in Tamenglong requiring surgical intervention had to travel 150 km to Imphal or elsewhere for treatment as there are no specialist doctors have been ever posted at First Referral Unit, (District Hospital), Tamenglong.
"Many patients from Tamenglong who went to the state capital for treatment died on the way and many women gave birth before reaching hospital�, Dr Chambo informed.
The Chief Medical Officer regretted over lack of specialist doctor and shortage of medical officers in Tamenglong district.
He noted that at least specialist doctors like general surgeon, gynaecologist, anaesthetist, ophthalmologist, ENT surgeon and radiologist should be posted in a district hospital and OT should be well equipped with blood storage facility.
