Lamka, August 10, 2013:
The department of Social Welfare has today distributed over 200 Manipur Old Age Pension Cards under Thanlon AC at the residence of the local MLA Vungzagin Valte at New Lamka's Dorcas Veng.
Addressing the beneficiaries, village chiefs and others who attended the simple function today, Valte requested all concerned to deliver the cards as well as the modest money that goes along with the card holders to the actual beneficiary.
'Let us not pocket two or three of them for our own.
Each of the card should reach the beneficiary,' he said even he wished the beneficiaries a good and healthy life.
In fact two of the card applicants have passed away before they could receive one.
While the DSWO A Umarani Devi was given the privilege of symbolically handing over the cards to a handful of its beneficiaries, Thanlon SDO S Thienlaljoy Gangte also addressed the gathering.
The SDO who took charge barely a couple of days back, told the gathering that he too shared the MLA's declared goal of rebuilding Thanlon sub-division.
'Let us start anew, if we don't care for our land, who will took care of them,' he told the chiefs even as he warned, 'I will be visiting your villages more often than you may have expected.' Assuring the people of a fresh impetus to rebuild the interior sub-division, that was not seen even in the North Eastern region, local MLA - Parliamentary V Valte urged the chiefs, officials and others who will be dealing on his massive rebuilding project to submit themselves before the Almighty, so that not a fraction of it was squandered.
He however did not exactly declare what the project was but claimed that it has already got the State Cabinet's nod to share 2 Crore, which is merely 10 percent of the project cost, as well as that of the centre which will fund the remaining amount.
Rebuilding Thanlon will not only entail development but reclaiming of its old residents who have migrated to town and cities, he told the gathering.
Sadly enough, according to Valte, many people in his constituency have reportedly refused to get themselves photographed or give officials their fingerprints for Biometric or BPL survey for health insurance, on the ground that these exercises were related to the Biblical number 666 .
