Chandel, August 10, 2013:
The Chandel District Naga-Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC) in its meeting held today at Liwa Changning endorsed the decision and stand taken up by the Committee on Land and Border Fencing, Manipur.
Talking to media after the meeting which was attended by about 40 leaders representing UNC, CNPO, KPF, NWUC, social workers, NGOs, village chiefs and students' leaders, Convener Wangshol Kanral Anal informed that the meeting discussed matters related to Indo-Myanmar border fencing, Thoubal DC/Collector: Land Acquisition orders No.17/42/LA/DC(TBL)/2011/660 dated Thoubal the 20th July, 2013 and MOU signed on May 25 between GoM and CDNKJC in connection with shifting of surrendered cadres of KYKL (MDF) from Chandel.
At the same time, the inspection report of the team which had recently visited the border villages was also heard and discussed during the meeting.
After a series of deliberation on all these issues, various resolutions were adopted.
CDNKJC resolved to endorse the newly formed committee and extend full support in matters related to border fencing, Kanral announced.
Accordingly, CDNKJC would be submitting a representation to the concerned authority through DC Chandel to register protest and demanded proper survey of the border area along with the land owners before further proceeding of the ongoing border fencing works, Kanral added.
On the resolution related to the order issued by Thoubal DC stating that the land proposed for construction of road between Khambathel to Chakpikarong at village No.91 Sugnu and 93-Toupokpi falls within the revenue of Thoubal district, Kanral said that CDNKJC will decide future course of action to be taken up in this regard after the public meeting to be held on August 20. On the MOU signed on May 25 between CDNKJC and GoM, Kanral pointed out that nothing has been done from the side of the Govt to shift the surrendered cadres from 20 BN Assam Rifles, although the Govt had given assurance.
There has been free movement of the surrendered cadres and there is apprehension among the people that violence may erupt at anytime and anyplace, Kanral said, while urging the Govt for speedy shifting of the surrendered cadres.
He also made it clear that people of Chandel will strongly oppose any move of the Govt to keep the surrendered cadres in any part of Chandel district.
