Work on Tamenglong-Khongsang road cannot start before 15 Aug: DC

Imphal, August 10, 2013:
Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district C.Arthur W, IAS, on Saturday urged the agitating bodies to call off their agitation including boycott of the forthcoming Independence Day celebration in Tamenglong as the actual work along Tamenglong-Khongsang road cannot start on or before 15 August, 2013. The Deputy Commissioner made the appeal during a joint meeting with the representatives of various civil organisations including Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong District; Zeliangrong Youth Front, Tamenglong Zone; Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong District; Zeliangrong Women Union; Zeliangrong Union and Zeliangrong Baudi at his office chamber.
The head of the district administration also informed that the Ministry of Surface Transport has agreed to sanction Rs 1.5 crores for maintenance of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.
"The file has been move, and once it is sanctioned, the amount would be deposited in the BRTF account for starting the road improvement work�, the DC reportedly assured the representatives of CSOs during the meeting.
However, the agitating bodies made it clear that they would not change their stand until their demand is met.
Consequently, the meeting ended without any concrete solution, but agreed to meet again on 14 August.
