Imphal, August 10, 2013:
All Tribal Disabled Students' Union (ATDSU) has demanded a separate school with hostel facility for the disabled tribal students in the State.
Addressing media persons at the office of ATDSU at Khuman Lampak here today, President Momo Tantanga said that the disabled tribal students in the State have not been able to get proper education till today.
They are deprived of education in normal schools because of their disabilities.
The State Government should establish a separate school to address the problems of disabled tribal students, he enjoined.
He lamented that the Social Welfare Department has not taken up anything for the welfare of disabled tribal students despite several memorandums and reminders served to the Minister and officials concerned.
Moreover, the delay in issuing disability certificates has deprived the benefits of disabled people, the President added.
Momo further demanded the authorities concerned to appoint Disability Commissioner and Deputy Disability Commissioner under Social Welfare Department as soon as possible.
ATDSU also resolved to launch mass agitation along with other social organizations if the demands of disabled tribal students are not fulfilled by August 30 .
