Imphal, July 26 2026: National Research Centre, Manipur released a book titled "Memory, Manipulation & Migration: Understanding the Anomalies in Manipur's Census, 1961-2011" authored by Dr Michael Samjetsabam at the NRC Auditorium, Canchipur on Sunday.

The release function was attended by Prof N Rajmuhon Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University as chief guest, Prof RK Narendra Singh, Demographer and Biostatistician as guest of honour, and NRC president Thongam Ajit as president.

Dr Homen Thangjam, Associate Professor, IGNTU, also spoke on the book.

Speaking at the event, Dr Michael Samjetsabam said the book examines census data of Manipur from 1961 to 2011 .

It analyzes anomalies in mother tongue and Scheduled Tribe data related to population, migration and ethnicity.

The study looks into whether the anomalies resulted from data manipulation or actual migration patterns, he added.

He asserted that the book highlights certain intrinsic structural issues in the census process and urged that such problems be addressed in future census exercises to ensure accurate data.
