Imphal, September 10 2015 :
Four Zeliangrong organisations Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN); Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF); All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) have rebutted the Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam assertion that he will not resign under pressure and without the high command direction.
The four organisations in a joint statement said Gaikhangam's statement exposed his "adamant attitude and complete dishonour" for people's voice and sentiments.
They explained that the demand for the resignation of the legislators was based on moral ground for their complete failure "to safeguard and protect the tribal people's rights, interest and sentiments.
Pointing out that the demand was fulfilled by some legislators, the four organisations lauded the bold steps taken by four NPF MLAs.
They have even pointed out the reported resignation of Congress MLA Ginsuanhau Zou to differentiate between him and Gaikhangam.
Terming Gaikhangam's portrayal of himself and his party as "supreme", the four organisations reminded that there have been instances where the rights of the tribal people have been infringed by enacting various Acts, Rules and Laws in the past.
Pointing out the ADC Act, 2008 as an example, they said tribal people's legitimate and Constitutional rights are in "extremely dangerous situation" despite the presence of the senior most tribal representatives and Constitutional provision of Hill Areas Committee (MAC) in the State Assembly.
Severely criticizing the State Government, the Zeliangrong organisations said the tribal representatives "knowingly or unknowingly" had participated in passing the three "anti-tribal people bills" leading to the loss of nine lives and causing serious injuries to many in Churachandpur district.
In such situation, Gaikhangam is trying to justify his "grave mistake" by passing "irresponsible comments".
The organisations also accused Gaikhangam of strongly propagating the "introduction of Common Land Laws with intention to abolish tribal people land holding and ownerships system" .
