State artistes leave for Tamil Nadu

A group of 11 'pung cholom' artistes of Institute of Manipuri Performing Arts (IMPA) left the State today for Tamil Nadu.
The artistes will perform in various educational institutes of Tamil Nadu under the 'Pung Troupe of Tamil Nadu SPIC MACAY Series' from September 12 .
The troupe was today flagged off from the rehearsal hall of IMPA located at Laipham Khunou, Mayai Leikai by the Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Upendro Sharma, film critic RK Bidur and PRO of IGAR (S), Maj Akhil Dhawan.
Sponsored by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) the artistes will present the rich cultural and artistic value of the State to young children of Tamil Nadu, stated president of SPIC MACAY Imphal Chapter Dr W Ibomcha in a brief interaction with media persons.

During the month long programme, the artistes will perform in all educational institutes located at Jollarpettai, Mettur, Salem, Coimbatore, Kotagiri, Ooty, Mettupalayam, Dindigul, Kodaikanal, Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Kumbokonam, Karaikal, Pondicherry and Chennai, he added.
He further said that the troupe will interact with the students after every performance.
SPIC MACAY is a voluntary youth movement which promotes aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture, it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world.
It seeks to foster the traditional Indian values and to generate awareness of the cultural traditions and heritage of India.
In order to achieve its goals, SPIC MACAY organizes concerts, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, informal discussions, and talks by eminent scholars and thinkers.
These programmes are hosted in schools and colleges with support from the local chapters of the organizations.
