Imphal, September 10 2015 :
The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur has said that they are ready to launch different forms of agitation as the Government has failed to give any positive response to the demand of the committee.
In a statement, the committee said that the Government has been maintaining silence on the ST status demand of Meiteis/Meeteis under Article 342(1) of the Constitution of India.
Saying that the committee believes in equal progress and opportunities and harmonious living of different communities, the statement said that the committee did not make the demand against any religion and ethnic community.
The committee further clarified that the committee would not maintain any connection with any person, who makes provocative comments and communal statements even though he/she supports the ST status demand of Meeteis/Meiteis.
The committee also urged the individuals, organisations, local clubs and meira paibee bodies, which support the demand to come at Uripok Haobam Dewan Leikai office of the committee and share their views and suggestions.
