The damaged right ear of a 24-year-old youth, who was injured in a pro-ILPS agitation, was operated upon successfully by a team of JNIMS doctors today.
Konthoujam Tombi (24) s/o K Rajen of Lamboikhongnangkhong was seriously injured after he was hit by a teargas shell on his right ear during a pro-ILPS agitation at Uripok Canteen area on August 5 last.
He was immediately rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment, family members said.
However, RIMS doctors told them that operation would be possible only after a month, family members said.
As they could not wait for a month, Tombi was admitted at JNIMS on September 7, they said.
With the help and support extended by the Relief Committee of ILPS movement, Tombi's damaged ear was successfully operated upon at the hospital today.
JNIMS Assistant Professor Dr Ningthoujam Kumarjit, who performed the operation, said that two holes created by the teargas shell blast in Tombi's eardrum were succesfully restored.
Saying that the operation took around 2 hours, he said that Dr Monika Karam also took part in the operation.
Tombi's mother Premika said that Relief Committee of ILPS movement bore all the medical expenses while all the necessary medical tests were conducted free of cost at JNIMS hospital.
