World soil day observed in Chandel

As part of observing December 5 as World Soil Day, Krishsi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel on Saturday observed World Soil Day under the theme "soils- a solid ground for life" in their office premises.
Local MLA Nunghlung Victor attended as Chief Guest; Deputy Commissioner, Chandel Robert Kshetrimayum , Project Director, ATMA, Chandel L Ingobi Singh and Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Chandel Deputy Director K Brojen attended as Guests of Honour while KVK Chandel Programme Coordinator GP Kabui attended as President.
During the programme, 250 soil health cards were distributed to the progressive farmers from different blocks in the Chandel District.
Inputs like radish and garden pea var, Arkel and other seeds were distributed to the farmers.
MLA Nunglung Victor stressed the importance of plantation groundnut crop.
He said ground nut is suitable for the Chandel District soils and stating that this crop also conserved nutrient in the soil as well as in the economic point of view.
DC Robert pointed out on the need for regular training programme on soil nutrient management to be conducted.

Engg) Dr K Sonamani Singh and ACTO (Plant Breeding) attended as resource persons and spokes on the themes "utility and advantages of Soil Health Card (SHC)" and "Soil management for sustainable agriculture" respectively.
