Manipur Library Association (MALA) has informed private authors and publishing firms that they should be aware of Delivery of Books (Public Libraries) Act, 1954 which specifies that on publication of new books by private authors and publishing firms, a copy of the book has to be sent to National Library, Kolkata, Connemara Public Library, Egmore, Chennai, Delhi Public Library, Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna and Asiatic Society Library, Kolkata within 30 days from the date of publication.
MALA further stated that the State Govt which buys books in bulk under Raja Rammohun Roy Foundation should should ask for certificates specifying that the books had been sent to libraries mentioned above under the Delivery of Books (Public Libraries) Act, 1954 .
If the authors and publishing firms in Manipur follow it in letter and spirit, the books published in the State can reach far corners of the country and to a wider audience of book lovers.
