Ibobi opens 22nd East Zone Pedicon

Chief Minis-ter Okram Ibobi today opened the 22nd East Zone Pedicon 2015 and 19th Manipedicon at City Convention Centre, Palace Gate.
The two conferences are hosted by Manipur State Branch of IAP.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Dr Arabinda Mo-hanty graced the inauguration function as chief guest and president respectively.
IAP executive member Ksh Chourjit, East Zone PEDICON secretary Dr BP Jaiswal, Pediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) president Dr Shyamkumar Laishram and PAM organisation secretary N Kameshor were the guests of honour.
In his speech, the Chief Minister said that children are not miniature adults, they are different in physiological, physical, psychological, emotional and social aspects from adults.

As such, while caring a child there is need to address not only the physical illness but also the whole aspects of developing them to make responsible persons in future.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the conference would provide a platform for exchange of fast developing medical knowledge in child care including a wide array of CMEs, lectures, oration, award session and cultural and emotional exchange among the Paedia- tricians of East Zone comprising 12 States - Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and the eight North East States.
Ibobi appreciated the association stating that it has brought together leading specialists from the public and private organisations to share knowledge and skills with a view to provide quality healthcare in the country especially in child care.
Saying that the State Government is putting in efforts to ensure a better healthcare system to the public, the Chief Minister said that the Government is focusing on provi- ding health insurance to its citizens, financial assistance to needy people and enhancing facilities at district and sub-divisional level hospitals.
Informing that the IMR and MMR of Manipur are 10 per 1000 live births and 60 per one lakh live births respectively, the Chief Minister said that the State has achie-ved these feats for the last three years consecutively.
The State Government has recruited additional doctors, specialists and supporting staff to extend health facilities to all districts and remotest corner of the State, he said.
Ibobi further said that Manipur has also received the best performing award in health sector in the small State category from Times Group.
The Chief Minister conferred the lifetime achievement award of Pediatric Association of Manipur on Dr Ksh Chourajit for his service and dedication in child health care in the State.
The Chief Minister also presented pioneer awards to Dr Aditi Baruah of Assam, Dr Niranjan Kumar Agarwal of Bihar, Dr Satyendra Kumar Singh of Jharkhand, Dr L Basanta of Manipur, Dr Yashica Shabong of Meghalaya, Dr Prakash Chandan Panda of Odisha, Dr Surjit Chakraborty of Tripura, Dr Pijush Kanti Saha of West Bengal and Dr Rafikul Rahaman of West Bengal.
Sishu Visheshagya Shiromain Award (Purbanchal) was handed over to Dr Shyama Saikia of Assam, Dr Anil Kumar Jaiswal of Bihar, Dr Kh Ibochouba of Manipur, Debashish Das of Meghalaya, Dr Bira Kishore Rath of Odisha, Dr Alekhya Das Gupta of Tripura, Dr Apurba Ghosh and Dr Sunil Majumder of West Bengal.
Okram Sheetle was awarded Prof L Ranbir Singh meritorious award for the best Graduate in Pediatrics with distinction in MBBS under Manipur University in 2015 .
