Bhagyachandra National festival set to begin from November 6

The tenth version of the Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance which has been organized by the Department of Arts and Culture, government of Manipur since 1989 would commence from November 6 at Shree Shree Govindajee temple, Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur district, Manipur.
The festival would be inaugurated by chief minister of Manipur, O.Ibobi at 4 pm and would be presided over by the minister of Commerce and Industries, Manipur, Govindas Konthoujam.
The main highlights of the festival would be performances of Nata Sankirtana by the Gurus and artists of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal and Maha-Raas dance by the Gurus and students of the Government Dance College, Imphal.
The main dance festival would, however be featured at Kangla, Imphal in front of Shree Shree Govindajee temple from 7-9 November at 5 pm daily which will again be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Manipur.
Six artists each from Manipur as well as from other Indian states will perform different dance forms during the festival.
On the first day of the main dance festival, artists R..KSabitrisana Devi (Manipuri) from Imphal, Sujata Mohapatra (Odissi) from Bhubaneshwar and T.Roneld Meitei (Manipuri) from Moirang will perform their art.
While on the second day, P.Lilabati Devi (Manipuri) from Imphal, Sathyanarayana Raju (Bharatnatyam) from Bangalore, Dr Methil Devika (Mohiniattam) from Palakkad, Ch.
Ajay Kumar (Kuchipudi) from Vijayawada and S.Sobita Devi (Manipuri) from Imphal wil present their dances.
On the last day, G.Sarjubala Devi (Manipuri) from Imphal, Vishal Krishna (Kathak) from Varanasi, Dr Meernanda Barthakur (Sattriya) from Guwahati and S.Bigyaneshwar Singh (Manipuri) from Imphal will present their performances, said Dr..KSushila.
She also said that the festival aims at reminiscing the greatest contributions made by the Rajarshi Bhagyachandra in the field of performing art, mainly in Nata Sankirtana and Maha-Raas dances which has been instrumental in establishing an indelible position at Manipur's art and culture in the world of art.
