'There would be common education system in the country only after education is devoid of privatization and commercialization', noted Prof Shat Gopal of Delhi University while attending a one-day discussion programme on Commercialization, Privatization: Communalization of Education organized by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) at its head office here today.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Shat Gopal pointed out that there are many people in the country who are deprived of education while lamenting that the education sector is greatly affected due to globalization, privatization and commercialization.
The Professor maintained that the country could gain more progress in the field of sports if there is proper playground in schools as it is the only place where sporting talents of children can be exposed.

Conceding that the State has been producing world class sport players who have brought laurels to the country despite lack of infrastructures and facilities, he exuded confidence that the State could produce more talented players if playgrounds are developed with availing adequate sport facilities.
People should stand together against the rampant privatization and commercialization in education.
There have been instances where government schools in some States had to be shut down unable to compete with private schools, the Professor said, adding that the number of private school in the country is on rise posing a serious concern for children belonging to poor families.
Surjit Thokchom, executive member of All India Forum for Rights to Education and Th Naresh, president of AMSU were seated on the dais.
After the end of the discussion programme, All India Shiksha Sangharsh Yatra 2014 organized by All India Forum for Rights to Education was flagged-off from the complex of the students' union.
Prof Shat Gopal and Surjit Thokchom also took part in the rally.
The rally which is organized in collaborations with civil society organizations would cover different parts of the country.
The main objectives of the rally are to bring common education system in the country; unite against corporate, capital and communal agents including caste system and human rights violation.
