Martyrs' mini marathon held

Remembering the supreme sacrifice made by 14 brave Border Security Force (BSF) personnel while maintaining unity, integrity and sovereignty of the Nation and fighting against anti-social elements across the country, Sector HQ BSF Cl (Ops) Manipur organized the first ever 'BSF Martyr's Mini Marathon' in collaboration with 'Seema Pahari Manipur' with technical support from the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
380 students from different schools below the age of 16 years participated in the 'BSF .Martyr's Mini Marathon' .
Deputy Inspector General SHQ BSF Cl (Ops) Manipur and Nagaland Angom Shamoo flagged off the 10 km long mini marathon from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in the presence of a huge crowd.
The mini marathon flagged off from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex culminated at the Main Stadium after passing through Lamlong, JNIMS, Ayangpalli Road, Kongba, Wangkhei, Hatta and Minuthong.
Deputy Commissioner, YAS H Deleep Singh, Deputy Inspector General SHQ BSF Cl (Ops) Manipur and Nagaland Angom Shamoo and Commandant of 49 Bn BSF AK Singh and Retd 2IC, BSF LDM Sharma graced the prize distribution function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
A Sumanta Meitei bagged the first position of the first mini marathon and received a cash award of Rs 10,000 while Kishorjit bagged the second position and received Rs 5,000 and Pritam Singh" won the third prize bagging a cash reward of Rs 3,000 .
11 participants received consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each.
Families of the bereaved families of 14 martyrs were honoured by giving them the privilege to give away the prizes to the winners of the mini marathon.
Mementos and booklets about the martyrs were also distributed to the invitees and the families.
Citing on the importance of organizing such events, Angom Shamoo said that such events will provide an opportunity for the BSF to honour the departed brave sons of Manipur.
Similar events are also organized in other parts of the country top.
BSF will continue to organize such events in the coming years, he added.
H Deleep hailed the Deputy Inspector General and his team for organising such a sports event in commemoration of the martyrs.
