FREINDS celebrates 8th birthday

Along with honouring mothers who have borne the most children, the 8th foundation day of Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) was celebrated under the theme of "Big Family is a Happy Family" at Manipur Press Club here today.
Speaking on the occasion, President of FREINDS Sapamcha Jadumani said that the State has been facing serious problem of influx of migrants ever since the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) was lifted from the State by the then Chief Commissioner Himmat Singh.
The demographic pattern of the State has been altered drastically with the inclusion of non-locals among the indigenous people.
He further said that the people of the State should avoid family planning programme to counter the increasing population of non-locals.
The indigenous people of the State may one day vanish like the Tripuiris of Tripura, Jadumani contended.
The President appealed to all to render utmost support and cooperation in the movement for the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
Acknowledging the motherhood of 14 children, Mutum Ongbi Sunita (42), w/o M Achou of Keibi Kunda Makha Leikai and Vakkon Gangte Khongshabung (84) were honoured by FREINDS during the celebration.
Many differently abled people and local youths working as barbers and cobblers were also presented gifts and awards by FRIENDS during its foundation day celebration.
