Imphal, November 15 2013 :
A day after the KNO advised Kukis against attending an alleged concocted reconciliation meet slated to be held on Nov 16, the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) today appealed all and sundry to support and join the peace and reconciliation programme without any doubt and hesitation saying "We must forgive and forget the past so that peace and development visited us again" .
A statement issued by the Information and Publicity Secretary of UKLF, JM Thadou today said Peace and Reconciliation meeting for the Kukis and Nagas of Chandel district is schedule to be held at Chandel on Nov 16 so that real peace and normalcy is restored in the district which is in line with the teaching of the Holy Bible.
For a period of time there had been a communal clash between Nagas and Kukis and the suffering and miseries of the people were enormous.
Now all peace loving and right thinking people of both the communities realised the futility of such madness and regretted so much for the unwanted happening of the past and they come forward for a joint venture.
This is a thing to be appreciated by all, it said.
In view of this situation, as a true revolutionary organisation, the UKLF is all set to restore lasting peace and normalcy in the society and strongly supported the peace initiative of the civil organisations, it asserted.
However, the press statement of KNO/KNA (published in some local dailies on Nov 15) is seen as trying to disrupt the proposed peace process which is embarrassing and uncalled for.
The same press statement highlighted some past incidents so as to deter people not to attend the peace meeting.
It also heaped some wild and baseless allegations on the head of the UKLF, the statement countered.
The proposed reconciliation meeting is mainly for the people of Chandel district and for all those peace loving people everywhere but not compulsorily to cover the others (Kukis and Nagas) outside the district if they don't want to be, it clarified.
The UKLF doesn't believe in remembering and recollecting the ugly past incidents as it will only bring more and more hatred and animosity between the two communities.
Hence, right from its inception, the UKLF left no stone unturned to bring peace and harmony between the two communities in a true Christian spirit.
Being human in form and spirit, there might be a time of hatred, conflict and confrontation but there must be also a time to reconcile and forget the past enmities so that we can make a forward movement to rebuild a better and brighter future, it said.
The peace initiative of the Kuki Inpi and the United Naga Council in 1994 failed because they tried to negotiate peace in their own terms without giving room for others.
Likewise, some other peace initiatives have also failed but we should not lost hope completely and give up forever, the UKLF reasoned.
The present one to be conducted in Chandel is under the initiative of Kuki Peoples Forum (KPF) and Chandel Naga Peoples Organization (CNPO) backed by all other civil bodies of the district, it said adding that as a revolutionary organisation set up for the people, the UKLF also supported and become part of it.
"Likewise all the people from all sectors should support and cooperate it so that we be able to restore lasting peace and rebuild our shattered society," it said.
