The Editors Guild of India has announced that the guild will take a decision concerning the membership of former editor MJ Akbar after getting necessary response from him concerning the allegations of sexual misconduct and after deliberating it during an executive meeting.
A press release issued by the EGI mentioned that the guild is tracking fresh and serious allegations of sexual misconduct against MJ Akbar and explained that he was a president of the guild and as such continues to be a member.
It continued that in accordance with the decision of the guild's last meeting, as ratified at the subsequent meeting of the executive, membership of those editors, whose profession has changed from journalism, goes dormant and MJ Akbar's membership is also dormant.
As provided by the guild's constitution, the executive committee is writing to Akbar to respond to the allegations and added that a decision on his membership will be taken once the due process is completed.
